How We Help
NABA’s services help individuals of all ages adapt to their vision loss, maximize their remaining vision, and achieve their goals. NABA provides services throughout the greater Capital Region to residents of Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Sullivan, Ulster, Warren and Washington Counties.
Vision Rehabilitation Therapy - Independence and Self-Sufficiency
NABA works with individuals to develop the skills and techniques that enable them to live independently. These skills may include household management, health and personal care and safe meal preparation. Individuals may also receive training in the use of low vision aids and/or adaptive technology designed for people with little or no vision.

Orientation & Mobility Instruction - Safe Travel
Being able to travel independently and safely is a critical part of dealing with vision loss. NABA specialists provide instruction on safe travel skills and ways to establish and maintain orientation. Lessons are individualized, taught inside and outdoors, and may incorporate the use of a sighted guide, cane skills, public transportation and existing vision as aided by low vision equipment.

Social Case Work - Adjusting to Vision Loss
Adjusting to and coping with vision loss can be very difficult emotionally. NABA assists individuals adjust to their vision loss, helping them to develop problem-solving and decision-making skills while reducing stress and anxiety. Learn More
Assistive Technology Center
NABA’s Assistive Technology Specialists assess the needs of the individual and recommend computer systems and software that enables people to utilize voice or large print technology for work or school. Training is provided on how to use the equipment. NABA specialists are available to consult with schools, businesses and other enterprises that may have employees or students needing assistive technology services. Learn More

NABA’s employment services include job readiness, job placement training, and job-seeking skills to help blind and visually impaired individuals achieve their goals. Learn More
Youth Services
NABA provides educational and recreational programs for children and teens with visual impairments throughout the year. These programs are designed to provide students with opportunities to try new and fun activities. The youth learn adaptive skills and build friendships with other children who are visually impaired. All activities are accessible for youth with varying levels of vision. Learn More

NABA's Low Vision Specialist determines a person's level of functional vision and prescribes low vision aids and training to maximize their remaining vision. Learn More
Low Vision Store
NABA’s Low Vision Store offers signature items made for the blind and the visually impaired. Our store offers writing guides, low vision writing paper, pens, signature guides, check writing guides, large print check registers, adaptive time devices (such as low vision and talking watches), UV-protected sunglasses, magnifiers, and canes.
